Poetry for Palestine

  • Palestine House of Freedom 650 Pennsylvania Ave SE Washington, DC 20003 United States (map)

Join us for "Poetry for Palestine: Refaat Alareer," an evening dedicated to remembering and honoring the profound legacy of Refaat Alareer through poetry and performance.

Refaat Alareer was a prominent Palestinian writer, poet, and activist from Gaza.

As a co-founder of "We Are Not Numbers," Refaat inspired young writers in Gaza to express their stories and struggles to the world. His significant works, including "Gaza Writes Back" and "Gaza Unsilenced," highlight the resilience and defiance of his people under occupation.

Though his life was tragically cut short by an Israeli airstrike in December 2023, his voice endures through his writings and the countless individuals he influenced.

This event invites us to collectively share and reflect on the power of poetry as a means of resistance and hope.

We are honored to feature Anne Waldman, a pivotal figure in the “outrider” experimental poetry community for over four decades. Joining her are poets Khaled Al Hissy, Zeina Azzam, Samar Najia, Lorraine Graham, Sepideh Jodeyri, and Zoe Brezsny.
